Hi Everyone, I would love to say the BG planar tweeters were a huge success. Not exactly. They are a mixed bag. I used two per channel (to get 8 ohms) and placed them on the front of the Altec 1010s in a vertical array. I used the stock crossover (2800). I adjusted the level control for a match with the woofer. Very nice top end. Wider sound stage than I expected, plus or minus 15 degrees really didn't make a lot of difference. Unfortunately they didn't sound as good as the the original Altec tweeters (they call it an energy radiating transducer). I switched from my tube amp (the KT77 project elsewhere on the site) to a vintage Marantz 1060 solid state amp. Much better sound. My conclusion is that the tweeters need a highly damped amp driving them. The tube amp just won't cut it for that application. With the SS amp they were quite good. So, if you use tubes, pass on these guys, with SS I would recommend them. You probably should get the mounting plates for them though. as without them they are difficult to mount.
Good listening Bruce
