I was gifted a Lighter Note kit some years back but only today am I assembling it. I have had a request for a tube buffer with "light speed" style atenuator. I would not suggest this kit for the newbie to cct. brd. assembly. There are a lot of very small components and the instructions are basic. Also some of the cct. brd. pads are very small and\or very close together. Component identification may fool the newbie, I struggled a little and I was born with a soldering iron in my hand.

There are too many components but the good thing is only the LDRs are in the signal path all the other parts just assist in controlling the LDRs and cct. stability. Snaps to follow. I have had a few requests for these devices so this may not be may last. Damn.

Looking forward to the photos Mark. One thing to keep in mind is that the resistance of the LDR changes significantly with small temperature changes so the attenuator will need to be external to the tube buffer chassis.

Cheers

In a 1UR 19" rack enclosure there is plenty of room to stay away from hot stuff. Still considering an enclosure. I may include a remote control pot.

Cct. brd. is complete. No calibration or anything else yet and I'm still considering the enclosure. This brd. takes a lot of soldering. Also 1mm solder is too thick and even 0.7mm still too thick. I actually had thinner solder which worked the best. A fine tip on the iron is suggested.
