Oh the days of old, when things were built properly, and built to last. Okay things are cheap now, and most people want something for nothing, that is in my opinion why quality is slipping. Hence why I want to build my own Hifi, sure you can buy very good quality kit, but you have to pay through the nose for it. My ultimate aim is to build my own CD player, I bet that would be a very worth while and rewarding project.

Kind regards, John.

If you find a good CDP kit please inform me. I find nothing but thousand dollar kits.

Hi Ri

Where abouts are the CDP kits you've found? I've not managed to find any yet...perhaps I'm not looking in the right places. In all honesty, I think I'll probably buy an old CDP and cannibalise it to make something from it, uprating the DAC, PSU etc along the way.

Kind regards, John.

They have one over at tentlabs. Others are where you buy one and then upgrade it but the darn CDP ends up running $650 before upgrades.

Thank you for the links.

I did find some rather nice looking CD trays here: http://www.daisy-laser.com/

I bet they cost a pretty penny, or pretty cent...it's pennies where I come from ;-)

Kind regards, John.

I just bought an old used one from Value Village, did some mods to it to find out if it was worth while doing anything good with it, then tore it all apart and now have the guts sitting on a partially assembled case. So far I spent :$: 10!!!! :P

If you want to see some crappy craftsmanship done by Samsung..... here you are....

Hmm, makes you wonder doesn't it....lol

I've been donated a CyberHome DVD player that doesn't work (so I'm told) I'll be ripping the guts out of that at some point...will see if it's any good as a CDP, if I can resurrect it. :D

Regards, John.

Hi Guys, I moved the CDP kit discussion into it's own thread.

As far as true "kits" go, I am only aware of the one from Tent Labs, complete with a hefty price tag.

There are a lot of DIY builds that seem to be centered around a CD-ROM used at the transport.

This may be an idea: http://www.daisy-laser.com/products/SAC ... tarter.htm

It is an "evaluation kit". I wonder how much it would be? I have requested a quotation.
Cheers

Lets not all clamor for a quote. Let Gio get one and see if its anything we would do. If we all start getting quotes they will probably push us aside.
