I'll definitely be looking forward to hearing what the quote is. I'll have a go at this DVD player when I get a chance.....if I can get a CD player out of it, great.

Hi John,

I am thinking that a better way about this is to buy an inexpensive CD/DVD player that is known to have a good transport and then use a digital cable out into a DAC. There are a few good DACs that have been reported to be pretty good on eBay. This seems to be the lowest cost alternative and give you can always ugrade the transport or DAC later on. You could also use the DAC with other devices too, like a computer or squeeze box.

Any thoughts?

Hi Gio

I really like the thought of that, I have found a couple of DACs that appeal to me. One of which is found here... http://audiosector.com/

I can't remember where the other one was though :-(

Kind regards, John

Another thought was to just buy a damn good CD player. I've wanted an HHB BurnIT! for ages, perhaps I should dip my hand in my pocket for one, thing is, it's £500...I believe.

There has been controller boards for CDROMs at this site:
http://diyclub.biz/catalog/index.php?language=en
and maybe here:
http://www.analogmetric.com/store/index.php
and here at eBlay:
eBay Item: 260402861205
The eBay-guy even has a cheap DAC.

This is no guarantee, but a Swede has bought a lot from this place. I have the DAC that will be used for the CDROM-driver I got from http://www.diyclub.biz a few years ago.

Kind regards, John.
