Post subject:  Bridge rectifiers

Does anyone,

Have some ideas of Bridge rectifiers that dissipate the lowest heat?
I'm looking for a 3A bridge at about 30V.
My guess is Schottky diode is the way to go but obviously voltage drop across the bridge vs operating current creates wattage.

Any thoughts? I'm not a fan of heatsinks.

I used the bridge rectifier mentioned in Matts link below. It has a small heat sink though, see the thermal calcs. Hard to judge but seems only slightly warm after operation. My hammond 266LA12 filament transformer though, later in the thread has some issues. Should have got the 2.5 amp one. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2699&start=127

Hi, some of the bigger ones (like 25 amp) bolt directly to the chassis. The price is not much different from the smaller ones. You could also fasten one to a heat sink.

Use multiple diodes /sochktty in parallel.
This will give you enough current rating.

They don't need to be matched, as the one drawing more current will have more voltage drop causing the lower current ones to turn on more.

Use the bridge diode in parallel directly

Use to of the same in parallel, the heat(power disipation) is halfed in the device.
Excluding matching losses where one turns on bit more,

It seems this is the case with Transistors like the BUZ10 and BUZ11 transistors where the heat dissipation is reduced across the device.

So its fairly obvious that the forward voltage drop X current is the issue. So in the initial forward on not being an issue as far as only operating after the input voltage exceeding the stored charge of the PSU capacitors, however it makes a big difference on power dissipated in the device in higher current applications. :D

So here is one device I have found:

It would be better if it was not surface mount, but I guess its along the right lines.

Try the SR5100.
You can buy geniune from rs components or buy semi fake quality from aliexpress.
China still soctkky but the votlage current ratings are less than rated.

Using syrcnrhonous rectifiers and low RDS on mosfets reduce the voltage accross mosfet using as a diode.
But too expensive and complex and not worth the hassle.
