Hello! I'm so happy to have found this forum. I am a musician who has been into multitrack recording, sound engineering, performance for over 20 years, but have never delved into the world of vintage HiFi and old tube electronics of the DIY variety. After a near fatal car wreck and 3 surgeries, I will be okay, but find myself with lots of free time at home, as I recover. Naturally, I took on a fun, distracting, and hopefully rewarding project.

The Project:
I located a gutted 1923 Victrola cabinet with a very cool brushed gold patina, coffin top, and front cabinet doors. The modern piece is a U-Turn Audio custom Orbit turntable with acrylic platter, Grado Black 1 cartridge, and their internal Pluto phono preamp with RIAA, which is switchable. My main goal is to achieve a vintage tube sound with the system, that has clarity and warmth at high volumes. I want it to pack a punch. After many hours researching, it seems like getting into an old tube amp that needs a lot of reconditioning may be more than I can handle. I wouldn't mind spending some time and taking on a challenging DIY tube preamp project, since we can be enjoying vinyl through the cabinet while I work on that project.

Can some of you suggest what amps I should be considering, and what speakers would pair well with them? I am considering a Dynaco ST70, but am totally open to anything that would provide ample tube power. The speakers each need to be able to fit in an 11"x22" area within the cabinet. I'm also all ears on tube preamp suggestions, that I may be able to obtain for a bargain, and modify or refurbish myself. This is my first time on here, so thanks for any input.

Can you guys recommend what

Hi, The biggest problem you are likely to run into is feedback. Putting speakers in the same cabinet as the turntable can be problematic. If you can fudge a bit and use ones that detach life would be a lot simpler.

Good listening
