OK, guys and gals - I just snagged one of these beasts (power amp, 45wpc/rms/8 c.1973, $450) for relatively cheap, non-working out of Luxembourg, to arrive sometime later this month. It will be my second. On the first, I replaced half-a-dozen capacitors and a couple of lamps, nothing earth-shattering or costly, and even that due to some very, very mild distortion, not an outright failure. That amp now lives, together with its brother the A720 with my grand-daughter (13 and very into music - mostly show tunes with some classical). So, I was looking for a sibling for my other A720 when this one came along.
I am hoping that the 'not-working' is due to the lack of a fuse in the fuse holder (missing). But I am seldom that lucky. I also have a good copy of the shop manual, a good selection of caps and a pretty good selection of compatible transistors along with the means to test and match the same. So, cutting to the chase: Has anyone here done a deep-dive into the A722? Any pointers, suggestions, thoughts? Otherwise, I will take a very linear approach starting at the front and working to the back, knowing that the Frakus caps tend to be rather flaky after 43 years.
Thanks in advance!
