Just to clarify, there is no need to connect the subwoofer or CD deck to do the procedure. Just connect the front panel to the rear supply/amp circuit. Remove the UPC from its socket. Plug it in with the upc removed, you should see a backlit LCD with no display. Line up the IC correctly essentially resting on its socket and with one motion, press into the socket. The front display board should be removed from the front housing to make the process a little easier. I recommend cleaning the pins of the UPC and socket. Be careful not to bend them. If your 3V battery is leaking you can buy one or a socket and battery if you desire. If it's not leaking measure the voltage. Mine was at 1.2V. The resistance/capacitance caused by the contamination, coupled with a "dirty" vdc glitched the UPC. It's been several months and the radio functions flawlessly. As I have said, I have performed this procedure dozens of times over the years, on multiple devices and was never disappointed. Of course, if there is a hard failure within the IC, this procedure will do nothing to correct it. Good Luck!
